Campitello 26-27 DECEMBER 2004 The first of four stages of the Italian Ice Climbing Cup was held on the 6th and 27th of December in Campitello di Fassa. The routes are traced along the lines of the fixed structure. Despite the high temperatures, our tracers, Mario Prinoth and Loris Manzana, managed to insert panels on icy parts so as to make the routes a bit different - even though initially there was only a dry tooling competition. They were great: they managed to make even the more difficult routes accessible to boys and girls. I think the event was a great success and all the athletes enjoyed themselves and climbed in a peaceful, friendly and fun atmosphere. However, it was still a competition where in a few minutes you have to give your all... in the end though, you also have to count on luck... luck that someone else may make a mistake. The organization of the event (www.icepassion.org) was the biggest success of the Cup. With a minimal budget and lots of will they managed to put together an event that was more than just an ice climbing one... it was a group of friends getting together and having fun. Bubu
