ROUTE  ITALIA  61
Piz Ciavazes 2004

I don’t remember who it was or when, but I remember someone telling me about this route and its roof and that maybe it was possible to free climb it. From the little I remember it wasn’t a serious proposal, rather more like someone taking the mickey.

It was mid-June and, as happens from time to time, I was dying to do some vertical yellow walls. Only this time it wasn’t those of the Tre Cime. I was reminded of Piz Ciavaces and Italia 61 and thought I could take a look and possibly do them as well.

Every climb I’ve done, no matter how long or short, there’s always been a story to tell…ripe with emotions, fear, joy, thrills... but I don’t always feel like telling them. This is one of those times; I’m keeping this story to myself!

Back to Piz Ciavaces…it sure as hell is full of climbers!
Apparently lots of poor ones too, seeing that on my first day I left a 7mm cord at the first belay (so that I wouldn’t have to re-do that first 50 metres of vertical grass which took so much concentration) and the day after…surprise! The cord had disappeared. Someone that night or very early the next morning had backtracked and took the cord.

Seeing they were there, they could’ve also taken the carabiner that I’d also left behind...
